The Shreveport DDA proudly welcomes and congratulates everyone joining in this weekend’s Centennial Celebration of the “City of Byrd!”
From last night’s Hall of Fame Induction to tonight’s Decades Celebration and the many activities filling Downtown and beyond, this milestone weekend is a remarkable tribute to community, tradition, and shared pride.
The opening of C.E. Byrd High School a century ago was a manifestation of a growing Shreveport. Originally, Shreveport High School was located on Hope Street in downtown Shreveport. Built in 1899 and expanded in 1910, it laid the groundwork for what would become Byrd High School.
DDA Executive Director Cedric B. Glover, a passionate collector of Shreveport and Northwest Louisiana history, recently acquired a 1950 yearbook commemorating Byrd’s 25th anniversary. Inside, he discovered a handwritten note from a young student—one who, just fifteen years later, would pass the state legislation establishing LSU Shreveport’s medical school as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
This is just one example of the profound impact C.E. Byrd High School and its alumni have had on the City of Shreveport and throughout the world.

We salute Byrd’s illustrious century and eagerly look forward to what awaits in the next 100 years!
